Reviewer Conflict of Interest
Conflicts of interest (COI) can compromise the integrity, impartiality, and credibility of the peer review process. To uphold ethical standards and maintain trust in editorial decisions, the Celebes Nursing Journal (CNJ) requires all reviewers to disclose any real, potential, or perceived conflicts before agreeing to evaluate a manuscript. CNJ adheres to the COI principles established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), ensuring that peer reviews are conducted objectively and transparently.
1. Types of Reviewer COI
Financial COI
- Funding or financial support from organizations related to the manuscript’s topic
- Paid consultancies
- Stock, equity, or other investment interests
Academic COI
- Direct academic or research competition
- Overlapping or closely related research agendas
- Recent collaborations with the authors
Personal COI
- Personal, familial, or professional relationships with authors
- Strong personal beliefs or biases related to the manuscript’s subject matter
2. Reviewer Responsibilities
- Promptly notify the editor if any COI exists
- Decline the review if impartiality cannot be ensured
- Maintain confidentiality and refrain from using manuscript content for personal gain
For full conflict of interest regulations at the journal level, please refer to the Conflict of Interest Policy under the POLICIES menu.
